A Simple Wish For Father’s Day
All politics aside – I have been most impressed during this meteorical rise of Barack Obama with his emphasis on the importance of fatherhood along with his awareness that his unique status provides him the opportunity to expound upon the virtues and responsibilities of fatherhood to an American community that needs to be reminded of the message.
So, while Father’s Day may have a dubious history, the fact is that the holiday is now clearly entrenched domestically and accepted as an important reminder of the role of the father in most of the modern world.
And President Obama marked the occasion utilizing dual platforms.
First, with an official Presidential Proclamation that serves as part tribute, part call to action.
And, secondly, by request of his office, a cover story in the nationally distributed Parade Magazine.

President Obama, hard at work in his "other" job
This very personal piece allows Obama the opportunity to reflect on what fatherhood means to him and pointedly reminds fathers that “what makes you a man is not the ability to have a child but the courage to raise one.”
The world will be a better place when all fathers heed this call.
Happy Father’s Day! Fathers, enjoy your day and use the holiday to reflect upon the importance of the job that you have every day for the rest of your lives.
